This installation was developed with Patricia Clark and Luis Gomez. Positions and movements of gallery patrons are analyzed via Kinect and used to create and manipulate video, image, and sound. An additional element displays links relevant to the message of the installation that is only revealed using polarized glasses.

Nests
Nests

Nests is an installation developed with Robert Kilman. Objects relating to concepts of “body” are scattered on a table. By connecting plugs hanging from a mannequin to jacks in the table, users effect changes in video projections, sound, and LED strip illuminations.

Little Swing
Little Swing

This installation is a prototype for a public art proposal created with Hilary Harp. The group I am a member of that will produce the more elaborate installation is the “Public Art Challenge”, funded by The Center for Critical Inquiry and Cultural Studies (CCICS), a unit within the Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies (HArCS) of Arizona State University’s New College. The larger piece will be installed in Scottsdale in 2012. This piece uses a sensor on a pendulum measuring the rotation applied by the user. A computer program then takes this analysis and plays back audio and controls the swinging of an upper pendulum. I wanted to try and create the impression of something completely mechanical, where sound and mechanics were perceived of as coming from the energy put into the system by the user.

This installation was created in collaboration with Scott Pagano. Visitors to the installation were encouraged to use wiiremotes - there were two wiiremotes, each manipulating video on one of two screens. The video I created displayed a 3D space navigated by and painted into with the wiiremote. My video was sent to Scott’s software, which applied effects to the image. These effects were manipulated by the second wiiremote. Visitors to the installation were also able to print an image of their creation by clicking a wiiremote button. The first of these videos is of Scott and I performing in the installation, and the second is the output of each of our software environments captured digitally.

Surface Noise
Surface Noise

Surface Noise was created in collaboration with Chris Danowski. Devised as an “installation/performance”, there were interactive elements for the audience to play with. One of these interactive pieces was a “doll house switchboard” shown below, where plugs in jacks modified sound.

Plague Round
Plague Round

This installation reflected on the economic recession. Outside the installation, a 3D animation acted as a hawker on a boardwalk - trying to entice people to enter. Inside, there were two pieces: a fish pond and a fortune teller. In the fish pond, the names of companies bailed out by the government were animated and projected onto a ceiling fan on the floor. Visitors had control over the fan speed. A wiimote was mounted on a fishing pole to allow users to “catch” the fish and score points.
